Why Is Time Off Necessary?

Time off is necessary after you undergo any sort of surgical procedure, but it’s especially important for facial plastic surgery. When you undergo a facial plastic surgery procedure, the bruising and swelling is quite visible on your face for the first week following surgery. You will need to heal and get rest following your procedure, and you will not feel comfortable being around others in a public setting as your face is recovering.

To ensure you heal quickly and free from complications, it’s best to take time off from work as advised by your cosmetic surgeon.

Time Off Work for Facial Lifts

The time off from work after a facial lift can vary depending on what kind of lift you underwent. Incisions are located in different places for a brow lift, a traditional facelift, a lower face lift, and a neck lift, and so healing experience is affected by this fact.

For brow lift surgery, you may need as little as one week off. For most facial lift procedures, however, it’s common to take two weeks off from work.

Time Off Work for Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Whether you undergo lower eyelid surgery or upper eyelid surgery, it’s important to take time off so the bruising and swelling goes down and so you can see just fine. For most eyelid surgery patients, two weeks off from work is customary.

Time Off Work for Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)

A nose job can lead to bruising and swelling around the nose and eyes for the first week or so after surgery. Patients will want to take two weeks off from work. Even when back at work, patients need to be careful about placing pressure on the nose. Even an object as light as your reading glasses can cause harm to the nose after rhinoplasty.

Walk to Promote Circulation

While strenuous physical activities are not recommended for a few weeks after surgery, patients are encourage to walk in their first month of healing. Walking helps promote blood circulation and improve wellness in the process. What’s more, walking can prevent the formation of harmful blood clots in the leg, which is a common problem many people face if they are lying down for prolonged amounts of time.

Slowly Returning to Normal Activities

Follow your surgeon’s orders when it comes to your return to normal activities. You do not want to rush back into any kinds of activities that may put the results of your surgery at risk. Usually patients are able to engage in light exercise by the fifth week after surgery. By the end of eight weeks after surgery, most patients should be back to their normal routines.

Attend Follow-Up Visits as Scheduled

Follow-up visits with you surgeon are a normal part of recovery. With each visit, your surgeon can monitor your healing progress and determine what activities you can engage in again. You can also ask questions and voice concerns about your healing experience at these visits as well as in between visits.
